When I was a kid, we visited Great Sand Dunes National Park, which has the tallest sand dunes in North America. Because they're loose sand, they're really challenging to climb. I remember throwing my ski mask ten or fifteen feet up the dune and then climbing up to it. Throw. Climb. Throw. Climb.
It was only recently that I realized that the sand dune experience was probably the first time that I had consciously set milestones. Up to that point I would wait for things to happen, even plan and look forward to them, but I had not gone out of my way to put a milestone in place.
Take enough steps in the right direction and you'll get where you're going. If you can continually put milestones within reach, you'll get to celebrate the whole way.
What's your next milestone? Are you sure there isn't one along the way that's a little closer?
