Most of startup life is devoted to cranking out product, getting funding, or building relationships (partners, customers, etc.). A little bit of time is consumed by administrative work: legal, accounting, and infrastructure. The rest of the time is decision-making.
The blessing of startup life is that the choices are unlimited.
The curse of startup life is that the choices are unlimited.
I think that this fact, more than any other, is the reason that a lot of people don't start their own business. Staring at the open sea, they wonder where to go. Some will see where the current takes them. Some will wait for wind and decide on the direction when it appears. The ones who make it are the ones who rip a plank off the deck, stick it in the water, and start stroking . . . often to a chorus of, "I didn't know we had paddles."
Are you drifting along or is the direction you're headed a conscious choice?
